HWA Blog - 6.9.24
Welcome to the academic year of 2024/25. I really hope you’ve had a relaxing and enjoyable summer break and it has been lovely speaking to the children, young people and families about what they have been doing over the summer.
Our new Reception children have done amazingly well coming to their new school. I’m pleased to say we have had lots of happy, smiling faces and also new year 7 and in-year students who have joined us this week it has been a pleasure seeing you settle into your new school.
As we look forward to the year ahead I have been busy finalising key documents with the senior leadership team and the governors. Part of this process is analysing the achievements that all of our children and young people achieved over the last academic year and the results are amazing. One of the key changes we are making this academic year is the names of the curriculum pathways here at Hollinwood Academy. Throughout primary and secondary, we have various curriculum pathways that cater to the needs of the children and young people. These pathways are designed to offer a broad and balanced education and aim to nurture well-rounded children and young people and equip them with the tools needed for personal growth and academic excellence. We will be communicating in more depth about our new curriculum pathways with families very soon.
Over the summer, our students received their outstanding GCSE results and I am extremely proud of all the students! I have to mention that three of our talented students—Kurt in Maths, Matthew in English Literature and Oliver in English Language—have all achieved remarkable grade 8s. AMAZING!
In addition, an impressive 85% of our students attained grade 4 and above in Food Technology and Nutrition, surpassing the national average. Our science results were commendable too, with 60% of students achieving grade 4 and above, and special congratulations to Leo, Lucas, and Charlie from Year 9 for obtaining a grade 5 in their science GCSE!
This year's English results have been the best ever for Hollinwood Academy. The coursework and anthology elements of the English iGCSE have significantly aided our students, especially those experiencing reading and writing anxieties, showcasing the effectiveness of our tailored support.
Furthermore, we also celebrated a record number of 132 GCSEs for year 11, which is 20 more than last academic year. The year 10 students obtained 18 GCSEs in maths and English Literature, which is amazing!! Functional skills entries in mathematics continue to prove to be a success with our younger year groups, ensuring that the students have confidence in gaining qualifications. We are also delighted to announce that four students achieved a gold award in the Duke of Edinburgh programme.
Thank you to everyone for your hard work and dedication—let’s continue to build on this success together!
Next week I will be showcasing our primary amazing SUPER STARs and HWA We are Caring STARs and also taking a look at every class and form as they have settled into the new academic year – it will be jam packed!
