HWA Blog - 4.4.25

As we finish for the spring term I would like to share with you the children and young people who received a Head Teacher’s Award for this half term. Well done and keep up the hard work…

Headteacher's Awards - 4.4.25

On Monday evening, we held our spring full Governor’s meeting and there was a lot to discuss and challenge received in the two-hour session. During the meeting, the Governors received an update from myself regarding the school, numbers, careers, premises, standards and attainment in relation to the ASP, IDSR and The Fisher Family Trust. Discussions were then had regarding admissions, mediations, tribunals, safeguarding and attendance, lockdown drill, sustainability and climate change plan and the wellbeing of children, young people and staff.

We then reviewed the school development plan and the progress made this term including the safeguarding reports, trends and training. Mrs Tushingham also gave an update on the February summary account, draft budget for 2025/26 and also discussed and agreed a number of policies. We also had a discussion regarding the use of Artificial intelligence (Ai) in school and how this is currently used, what it will look like moving forward and how this will be implemented into the curriculum. It was a great discussion and will link to our digital strategy moving forward.

We also finalised and agreed the Governor portfolio areas that align with the New Bridge Multi Academy Trust (NB MAT) pillars that Clare John, NB MAT CEO, has implemented across the schools within the MAT. Our governors at Hollinwood Academy will hold the following areas:

· High Quality and Inclusive Education – Rebecca Halkyard

· School Improvement – Anna Madden

· Workforce – Rebecca Ashton

· Finance and Operations – Hazel Gloster

· Governance and Leadership – Hazel Booth

· Safeguarding – Claire Sheild

· SEND – Catherine Watson

· Chair of Governors (chair all committees) – Nicola Owen

· Headteacher – Laura Millard

The plan is to invite the Governors into school to meet with the senior leadership member responsible for each portfolio so they can better understand this area in depth and then report back to the governors as an additional layer of quality assurance. A school governor's main role is to ensure high standards of achievement for all of our children and young people by setting the school's vision, ethos, and strategic direction, holding myself and the senior leadership team accountable for educational performance, and overseeing the school's financial performance. Holding these portfolio areas will ensure a thorough oversight and effective governance for Hollinwood Academy. The primary purpose of a school governor is to act as a critical friend to the school, providing support and challenge to ensure the best possible outcomes for all students. Each of our governors brings a unique perspective and contributions to our meetings and I am extremely grateful for this.

Today, the whole school participated in our first Easter fair to raise funds for our new school bus. We had events like the egg and spoon race, soak the teacher and an egg decorating competition, as well as an egg tombola egg hunt and the ice cream van. A fabulous time was had by all. Thank you to all our children, young people, staff and parents who help make this possible.
