HWA Blog - 23.5.25

Hello everyone. I hope you have all had a good week; the temperature has dipped a little, but the sun is still peeping through so fingers crossed for another sunny and warm weekend.

I cannot believe how fast summer term 1 has gone. GCSE season has started and year 11 are busy preparing for their next exams. I am so proud of their efforts so far and I wish them lots of luck for the next exam.

Well done to all children and young people who received an attendance certificate this half term. It is important we have good attendance to school, and I would like to thank parents and carers for your support with this.

I would like to say thank you to the classes I have visited this week for showcasing their amazing work. A special mention must go to Miss Hulmes class, for creating such imaginative poems, and reading out loud to myself and the rest of the class. What wonderful imaginations you have.

Congratulations to our very own Miss Rashid who on the 14th of May attended the Royal Garden party at Buckingham Palace after being nominated by a wonderful grandparent for excellence in education. Not only was she proud of herself for being there, but she was also proud to be representing Hollinwood academy. Miss Rashid shared….

The whole day was amazing, and I will be forever grateful to have been given the opportunity to experience it. My favourite part of the day was eating my cucumber sandwiches, listening to the band and enjoying being around likeminded professionals. Of course, meeting the King was top of the list.

Congratulations Miss Rashid. I would love to meet the king one day!

Now let’s have a look at what the rest of school have been up…

Starting with Miss Tootill’s class….

From Miss Tootill…

"First and foremost, I would like to extend my heartfelt congratulations to our Year 6 students who completed their SATs tests last week. The determination, resilience, and self-regulation displayed by each child throughout this process have been truly commendable. Their smiles at the end of the week were a testament to their hard work, and as their teacher, I could not be prouder of their achievements.

Despite this term being relatively short, we have filled it with a wealth of learning experiences across all subjects. In our history lessons, for instance, we have deepened our understanding of Ancient Greece, which has sparked lively discussions and enthusiastic engagement from the children.

In English, our exploration of riddles proved to be particularly enjoyable. The entire class showcased their creativity by providing examples, sharing their work, and enhancing their understanding of the various features of riddles. As we approach our final term together, we will continue to utilise our Talk for Writing approach, culminating in a focused effort to enhance their writing skills further.

During our PSHRE sessions, we have delved into the concept of active citizenship, which included learning valuable lessons on financial literacy and career navigation. It is vital that our students understand these life skills as they prepare for their future endeavours.

This term, we also had the pleasure of visiting a local farm, creating lasting memories together as a class. Such experiences are invaluable in supporting our children's social development and fostering a sense of community.

Finally, I want to convey my sincere thanks to you, our families, for your unwavering support, encouragement, and communication throughout the year. Your involvement has made a significant difference in our students’ educational experiences.

I hope all of you have a wonderful half-term and a warm, restful summer break. Miss Tootill."

Finally, Billy Harrison has created a piece of art that he is keen to share with you all. Billy was inspired by his art teacher in school. Billy has done this in honour of everyone effected by the arena bombing. He has created this piece of artwork to remember them. He has worked tirelessly over the last 3 weeks creating this piece, and he feels very passionate about it. Friends were lost that day and some more hurt. Today we remember the 22 that lost their lives needlessly and we remember all those whose lives changed forever.

The piece has 22 bees representing all of those who lost their lives. The lyrics to 'Don’t look back in anger' are in the background, as well as pictures of Liam Gallagher and Ariana Grande. The main bee in the centre represents Martyn Hett.

Billy has learnt lots of new techniques and processes whilst doing this project. He used Deco patch to create the background and coated with a yellow and orange paint wash. Printed with bubble wrap for the honeycomb effect and created the centre bee with card and hot glue. He then coated the glue with enamel paint to create an industrial look.

I would like to wish Billy lots of luck on entering the Arts ‘one love Project’. He has carefully crafted the design above and what a masterpiece this is. Good luck Billy you are a winner in our eyes.

Have a lovely weekend and a fabulous week off.

Miss Gordon
