What a week!
We have been featured in many social media posts regarding our sponsored walk and we have had another company sponsor us this week too.
The grand total so far for our new bus is £9,350 and we are still receiving sponsorships and donations.
We have received notice that we have been successful in receiving a £1,000 grant from The Ernest Cook Trust, to support the delivery of Outdoor Learning, in particular our transport funds for a new bus. AMAZING!
Monday morning saw Mrs Lerigo and her reception class lead the whole school assembly on Armistice Day and they were amazing! They explained what Remembrance was and why we have Remembrance Day on the 11th November each year. They then shared why we have a two minute silence and why we wear poppies…
The Reception children were fantastic and did Mrs Lerigo, the team and myself proud.
On Tuesday, the whole school took part in Anti-bullying week with children, young people and staff who came to school in Odd Socks to symbolise 'Acceptance', promote the theme of ‘Choose Respect’ and celebrate what makes us all unique. Students have been talking about this topic in class and completing resources, as we also had our super learning day we were able to link this to inter-faith and target religious bullying. As a school, our anti-bullying ambassadors are also working towards their inclusion badge with the Diana Award.
Anti Bullying Day
On Wednesday, Mr Ottaway, Miss Sutcliffe and Mrs Syeda took a group of our primary students to Manchester City, this was part of the annual primary school football at the Etihad Campus. This gives young students a unique opportunity to play on professional pitches and experience the thrill of the game in a premier setting.
The event, organised by City in the Community, saw enthusiastic teams of boys and girls from local schools coming together to enjoy a day filled with fun, sportsmanship, and teamwork. Here is Mr Ottaway’s commentary from the day…
There were moments of impressive passing, surprising goals, and even some dramatic saves from our goalkeepers, drawing cheers from teammates and teachers. Throughout the day, the focus was on participation and enjoyment, with all students being encouraged to try their best and support one another.
Each match was closely contested, and every student had a chance to shine, whether scoring goals, defending their team’s half, or showcasing teamwork.
The event concluded with a friendly awards ceremony where everyone received a participation certificate and a signed program. Overall, the primary school football day at Manchester City was a fantastic experience for our young students. They left not only with new skills but also with unforgettable memories of playing in the same venue as some of their football heroes.
Well done, everyone!
Mr Ottaway
On Thursday, we celebrated ‘Inter Faith Week’ within our Super Learning Morning. The focus of the morning was to discuss different religions, highlighting the importance of diversity and how to overcome discrimination. Each class engaged in small activities to promote different religions and to discuss experiences, opinions and beliefs. We had a successful morning with lots of learning and opportunities to share ideas.

Now to Mrs Bennett’s outdoor education sessions…
"Following a lovely half-term Mrs Bennett’s primary classes settled back into outdoor education routines and followed instructions within the community. They visited local parks and followed stop and go, left and right instructions. They enjoyed walking along different terrain and through beautifully coloured autumn leaves and hearing the crunch with every step they took.
Year 9 classes also visited local parks and discussed bonfire night safety before exploring the local community.
This week primary classes visited Stamford Park and practiced good road safety whilst walking along the pavement, they stopped at every road junction to make sure it was safe to cross and when they reached the top of the hill they used the pedestrian crossing to cross the road. They waited for the red man to turn green and crossed the road safely. They continued their walk through the dingle where the paths were covered in beautiful coloured autumn leaves.
Year 9 classes and Miss Gittin’s class visited Eastlands Asda and walked around the store independently and took turns to explore items they were interested in to purchase with a £3.00 budget to develop money skills, communication, turn-taking and budgeting. Well done, everyone."
